Temporary suspension of classes

Since March 2020 trading has been very difficult for many businesses with them either having to cease trading or operate in a very compromised way.  Due to the most recent announcements from the Government with regard to Covid 19 restrictions, The Edward Hayden School of Cookery must remain closed. Unfortunately our wonderfully intimate business offering the very best of food, training and hospitality is currently unable to conform with the latest requirements around social distancing.

Rest assured, as the situation improves we will be back doing what we do best-creating wonderful food and memories in the glorious and relaxed setting of our purpose built facility. Despite the setbacks, we remain steadfast in our intention to return to creating the experience you have all enjoyed since we opened our doors in 2015.

In the mean time we think of those who have lost their lives as a result of this virus, those who are sick, those that mourn and indeed those who continue to work so hard in the Covid 19 battle.

Course Descriptions

All of the classes are demonstration style classes during which Edward uses foods of the highest quality to showcase
some amazing dishes using readily available, easy to source ingredients. During each class he will guide you step by
step through the full suite of recipes and impart lots of his top tips along the way to make recreating these dishes at home
easier and less daunting for you. To help you select a course have a look through some of the course descriptions of the
various themed classes.

 

Easy Entertaining for Family & Friends

This is one of our most popular courses and the theme allows Edward the opportunity to showcase a really nice selection of starters
and main courses that can double up in terms of suitability for family dining but would also be very suitable for cooking when
having friends over. As part of this class, Edward always makes dessert!

 

Edward’s One Pot Wonders & Quick Suppers

This course is ideal for those that are always battling with the clock. Edward will show you how to make the most of your weekly shop using
some of your household staples to make tasty meals that don’t take long to prepare. The course is split between rapidly
prepared and cooked dishes and also a selection of dishes that can happily cook away, without any fuss whilst
you attend to other pre dinner duties.

 

Tasty Tapas, Nibbles & Party Food

For frequent entertainers this class will give guests the opportunity to learn some Spanish inspired tapas recipes and also some quick
and tasty light bites and finger food options to serve with drinks or for casual get togethers at home.

 

Mixed Cuisine (Curries, Italian & Asian)

This is a taster style class and fuses a couple of different cuisine types together. Edward will take some ingredients that
are synonymous with a particular cuisine type and then marry them with some popular and easy to source ingredients in an attempt
to inspire you to ‘jazz up’ your current repertoire.

 

Mystery Basket Tasting Menu

In this class guests will get some inspiration for any upcoming dinner parties they may be hosting. They will learn how
to make a pre-starter, starter, fish course, main course and dessert and then will get the opportunity
to have the full dinner party served to them in Edward’s dining room.

 

Show Stopping Cakes & Bakes

Down through the years Edward has become well known for his delicious cakes and bakes. In this class Edward will give
you some very effective recipes and tips to create that extra WOW effect in your baked goods. Whilst the menu changes
guests can expect to learn about pastries, flavoured cakes and indulgent dishes with varying levels of both effort and complexity.

 

Christmas Lunch with All the Trimmings

Since opening the Edward Hayden School of Cookery this has been one of our most popular classes with people
travelling from all over the country to enjoy the Christmas experience. Guests will be shown how to liven up the
traditional Christmas fare and enjoy a delicious 4 course festive meal with Christmas canapés,
yummy mince pies and a bit of Michael Buble!

 

Festive Themed Party Tasting Menu

Similar to our mystery basket night, on this course Edward will showcase a 5 course festive themed dinner party with
lots of quintessential festive flavours. He will also include lots of his tips on the best ways to entertain including
prepare ahead and convivial dining options.

 

Christmas Canapés & Party Food

During this class guests will learn how to prepare a wide selection of hot and cold canapés suitable for serving at your
Christmas drinks receptions and other informal gatherings. As well as this Edward will showcase
some larger canapés suitable for a party food buffet or fork supper.

What to expect

Here at ‘The Edward Hayden School of Cookery’ we pride ourselves on offering a very fun, informative and educational experience in a very relaxed manner. Mountain views, river walks, water sports, Duiske Abbey, historical landmarks, long established crafts, and indeed ‘The Edward Hayden School of Cookery’ all help to make Graiguenamanagh the hidden gem that it is. The school is based at the back of Edward’s home on Mill Road in the beautiful town of Graiguenamanagh in Ireland’s south east, in view of the much adored Brandon hill.
We enjoy visits from many customers both locally and nationally and here’s a few items to note before you visit.

Useful information

  • The school will be open approximately 15 minutes before the commencement of the class. Please aim to arrive no earlier than this as the school may not be open.
  • All classes are demonstration style classes, and will be delivered by chef/patron Edward Hayden, unless otherwise specified.
  • Minimum numbers of 12 people must be achieved for the class to proceed.
  • For the evening classes the cookery school closes at 11pm sharp.
  • Customers are invited to bring their own beverages as required. A limited amount of parking is available on the school grounds. Additional parking can be found on the nearby and adjacent road.
  • As the day classes are run over a longer time period we cover a greater amount of recipes
  • Recipe sheets will be provided for all guests and a full meal is served at the end of each class.
  • A substantial meal/tasting experience is included in each class.

Edward has published three cookery books. His first self published book, ‘Edward Entertains’ was released in 2008 and is sold out. His next two publications ‘Food to Love’ (which was awarded the prestigious Kerry Food Book of the Year) and ‘Food for Friends’ were published with The O’Brien Press. He is currently putting the finishing touches to his next book, due for release next year.
